another sign-language-interpreted Shabbat service on Saturday morning, May
10th, and we hope you can join us!
Services will include full readings from the Torah and Haftorah (Prophets),

1st and 2nd Avenues in Manhattan.
Our interpreters will be Naomi Brunnlehrman and Melissa March.
A guest speaker will talk during Services about "Torah and Music".
A Kiddush (refreshments and social hour) will follow Services, after which
our
speaker will present again, with questions-and-answers (interpreted as

different topic, on Saturday, June 7th. Details will follow soon, and we
hope
you'll join us for that as well!

- READING/Q&A from THE WAR OF THE ROSENS with author JANICE EIDUS , Saturday, May 24th, 1:30-2:3:00 PM, in the Chapel. THE WAR OF THE ROSENS was nominated for the prestigious 2007 Sophie Brody Medal, an award for the most distinguished contribution to Jewish Literature for Adults. Set in the Bronx in the 1960s, THE WAR OF THE ROSENS is about an eccentric, volatile, secular Jewish family who must come to terms with the true meanings of both love and faith. It is also a moving and profound exploration of Eidus's own hard-earned, unconventional Jewish identity. A prolific and award-winning writer, author of six books and numerous short stories and essays, her writing has touched upon topics as diverse as the role of women, sexuality, rock & roll, and urban life. And yet, for years, she did not, could not, write about her Jewish identity or roots. Eidus will read from THE WAR OF THE ROSENS, and speak about how she broke through her "Jewish writer's block" to write this novel, as well as numerous essays, stories, and reviews for TIKKUN, THE FORWARD, JEWISH CURRENTS, THE OXFORD BOOK OF JEWISH STORIES, and many other leading Jewish magazines, newspapers, and anthologies.
